Let us take a moment to recognize the significance of the guilty verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial and the step towards accountability.
Our hearts go out to the Floyd family as no action can bring back their loved one; however we share in that George Floyd has ignited the global tributes and protests for equity and reform.
Betances Health Center stands in solidarity with all People of Color (POC) and against hate crimes targeting POC. We stand for the rights of all people to be treated fairly and to receive healthcare as their right, not a privilege. Let this be the catalyst we need to continue the fight for diversity and inclusivity in all that we do.
There is much work ahead to continue the movement to stop hate, dismantle racism and promote equitable healthcare for all POC. We as a community must advocate for POC funding of Violence Prevention and Diversity Inclusivity; identify financial investments and commitments that can be channeled to our communities to raise awareness, develop programs and policies to create reform; and identify resources for POC communities to utilize in promoting equity and justice, including tools for addressing hate crimes and ways to foster advocacy work.
We have hope that this becomes an important and commanding moment for action and ongoing advocacy.
Betances Health Center has an unwavering commitment to equity, diversity and inclusivity. Let us all remember to hold space for each other, to stand in solidarity, spread awareness and promote advocacy in a call to action.
