Remembering the victims of the Mass Shootings

To all of our Betances Friends

With a heavy heart, I mourn with the nation on the unspeakable tragedy during the recent spree of mass shootings at a time when we should have been celebrating a happy Lunar New Year.

Let us take a moment of silence and prayer to honor and remember the lives lost, and to offer solace to the living family, friends and relatives who must go one. We need to remain vigilant and strong in our stand to stop gun violence. Our minority sisters and brothers all over the nation continue to be targeted in communities, impacting not only those directly harmed, but also the entire communities of People of Color (POC). I encourage you to lean into your community for support and to show your sympathy and respect for this tragedy. Let us stand in solidarity with the Asian community and that of all POC to work tirelessly to fight both gun violence and hate crimes.

I ask each of you also to be kind and to think of each other, your colleagues, friends and family in remembrance of all that we stand for each other. Mental health is crucial to our survival and to our holistic well-being. A smile, a hug and gratitude for each other goes such a long way and it is very much needed during times of sadness as we just witnessed.

I am grateful to work at Betances Health Center and to have each and everyone of you with me and beside me. Stay well, safe, and healthy and above all, be there for one another.
