Dear Patient: We know you are concerned about the Coronavirus (COVID-19). As your healthcare partner, we want you to know that your safety is our top priority. We will at all times try to remain in contact with you regarding best practices and how to remain healthy.
What you should do to protect yourself Coronavirus spreads through contact with respiratory droplets caused by coughing and sneezing. The best ways to protect yourself include:
1. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
2.Cough or sneeze into a tissue covering your mouth and your nose, Discard the tissue after each use. If a tissue is not available cough/sneeze into your elbow covering your mouth and nose.
3.Try to avoid touching your face. Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Stay home from school or work when you are sick.
Because it is still cold and flu season, our offices continue to see a significant number of patients with symptoms like fever, cough and body aches. Right now, if you’re feeling ill, it is still much more likely to be the cold or flu rather than the Coronavirus. As with the flu, most people who get Coronavirus experience mild viral symptoms such as fever, cough, muscle pain or weakness, and fatigue, and will experience a complete recovery. What you should do if you are experiencing symptoms If you are in respiratory distress, please call 911. If you have a fever, cough, and other symptoms of a respiratory infection, call your health care provider and get clinically screened via the telephone. Follow the advice of the clinical team. If you are told to come in identify yourself at the front desk as a potential exposure immediately as a precaution, you will be asked to wear a mask to limit exposure to others.
What we are doing to keep all patients safe
We take this situation very seriously and have been preparing for potential cases for weeks. For us that means reinforcing our protocols, using appropriate supplies and devising rapid-response contingency plans.
For patients unable to get to our center but still need medical advice, medications and more, we offer the ability to sign up for our patient portal to allow you to communicate with your provider for your continued ongoing medical needs. Be sure to ask one of our staff members to help you get signed up.
At all Betances locations, all staff are trained on the appropriate care for patients with flu-like symptoms and are wearing masks and using protective equipment when appropriate. We are following CDC and DOH guidelines to limit the spread of the virus including how we isolate patients with symptoms and how we disinfect rooms between patients. We are working with state and local health care providers and officials to keep you as informed as possible and will continue to monitor the situation as it unfolds. We will work to provide email/socialmedia and portal updates as this situation develops but we also encourage you to follow our social media channels Facebook, Twitter , Instagram to stay updated.
Above all we encourage you to remain as calm as possible.
Yours for better health,
Maria Cellario,CMO
