This week 8/9-8/15 is National Community Health Center Week
Community Health centers are the largest primary health care system in the U.S., serving more than 30 million patients. More than 95 percent of health centers have the ability to test for the virus and have tested more than 2.4 million people since April. About 14 percent of tests are positive – far higher than the national average because many health center patients are America's essential workers, people who harvest our food, stock grocery store shelves, or clean public spaces, and who do not have paid leave or the ability to work from home. Health centers serve one third of all people living in poverty. Two-thirds of patients are members of racial and ethnic minorities. The 236,000 dedicated staff at health centers have sacrificed greatly for their efforts to save lives: over 11,300 have tested positive for the virus. - source National Association of Community Health Centers
Community Health Centers have always been at the hub of community Health Care, Education and Outreach. Community Health Centers are not ordinary medical clinics; they are also problem-solvers who reach beyond the exam room walls, they are out in the community caring for the whole person by providing access to necessities like food and housing resources. Community Health Centers care for everyone, regardless of insurance status. As unemployment rises and more Americans lose jobs and health care insurance Community Health Centers will be the key to keeping America healthy.
At Betances we a proud to be a Community Health Center for 50 years servicing our patients from the Lower East Side, Bushwick and the outer boroughs. Our doors are open and YOU are always welcome.
