A message from our Chief Medical Officer

Dear Betances Community,

At Betances Health Center the work we do in healthcare is an essential service and a critical infrastructure industry as defined by Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Therefore we are here on the frontlines and will remain open to service our communities.

Betances Health Center works to keep vulnerable New Yorkers and their families healthy by providing them with quality healthcare. We have endured a lot of challenges together. While COVID-19 presents an unprecedented public health crisis for our city, know that Betances remains steadfast in its service as a frontline health center. We are here and together we all will persevere.

Many Betances Patients are at high risk for COVID-19: Our Seniors, pregnant patients, grandparents raising grandchildren and immunocompromised people living with HIV and cancer.

We also serve patients who have been affected by trauma in their lives and right now, feel the threat of this disease and the isolation caused by necessary precautions like social distancing.

Please know that we are here for you, you are not alone.

What has changed at Betances in light of COVID-19:

Staff is screening all clients for risk factors associated with COVID-19: asking clients about recent international travel, if they're having any flu-like symptoms, etc., and assisting with connecting them to appropriate medical resources, as per Department of Health protocols. Our social workers, clinicians and other health experts are providing counseling and support sessions at the health center and via telephone.

Our operations team is ensuring the safety of our facility and conducting daily sanitation measures so our office will be safe at all times of operation. We are practicing social distancing in all of our facilities.

We have closed our Betances Health Center at Henry Street Settlement (40 Montgomery St, NY, NY 10002) in order to consolidate resources and mitigate exposure and virus spread. Patients will be directed to our 280 Henry Street site which is a 4 minute walk from the BHC-HSS location.

We have cancelled all in-person groups.

We have adjusted our hours of operation for Monday and Wednesday: we are closing at 5:00 PM

We welcome your ideas and communication through this blog and our social media outlets for access please scan the bar code contained in this message by holding your phone in front of it as if you were taking a picture of it. A box will appear for you to tap and open to access our sites.
